Art, psychoanalysis, and humor all involve seeing the ordinary in new and surprising ways. In this sense all art is accidental and all art is found art. From an analytic perspective, that is just a way of saying that in art as in everything else, unconscious processes trump conscious intention. As Stephen King put it, "So-called higher thought is, by and large, highly overrated. When trouble comes and steps have to be taken, I find it's generally better to just stand aside and let the boys in the basement do their work." I try to catch what catches my eye: texture, form, color, tone. In retrospect, I am not sure whether I am the catcher or the catchee. When I look at what my camera recorded I often find an unexpected irony. I am not always pleased, but I am always surprised.
